Hybrid Power Plant SB presents a new direction in conducting long-term business and energy policies in the application of EU directives and energy law packages, as well as in creating long-term project partners business relationships. Power market development, as well as natural gas and electrical energy markets impose new rules of behaviour, offer new possibilities and open new challenges. This energy facility is designed as a state-of-the-art thermal power plant whose design has been made in full accordance with the principles and recommendations arising from the European Union guidelines regarding the application of the best available techniques on the principles of sustainable energy development. Also, this is the first application of commercial carbon capture from exhausted gases on gas turbines and gas thermal power plants. With its technical and dynamic characteristics, this advanced thermal power plant is suitable for peak and intermittent operation and for providing ancillary services needed by the Croatian power system, primarily due to great flexibility, especially in the conditions of higher share of volatile sources of electricity production, primarily from renewable energy sources. Regarding energy security and sufficiency, this thermal power plant is of special importance since the Republic of Croatia has its own natural gas production with proven reserves and a well-developed natural gas transmission system for gas supply, as well as sufficient underground gas storage capacity for necessary flexibility and insurance of natural gas supply. Hybrid Power Plant SB is a greenfield project developed on the area of 200 000 m2 in the port of Slavonski Brod, whose concession was granted to Crodux for a period of 35 years. Electrical energy will be fed into the distribution network by a switchyard at the location of the thermal power plant Slavonski Brod and the substation located in the close vicinity and then further by a 110 kV transmission line. All preparatory activities including geological, geo-mechanical, archaeological research were performed on the site, including the physical planning coordination, connections to gas and electricity transmission networks and the construction of all necessary infrastructure for construction (new railway track, road and port for ships and barges). This is the project that forms the basis for investment growth and development and ensures long-term energy stability and safety. |
